The basic materials of this thesis are based on the tales of dokkaebi recorded from the regions of Daejeon and Chungcheong. And various kinds of aspects on the generation, action, and function and the like of the dokkaebi has been investigated based on the materials in this study as well. For a method of description deployment. five types of stories have been selected, which are to generate a dokkaebi, to look at a dokkaebi, to become a man of wealth through a dokkaebi. to get a mallet of dokkaebi, and to get a salvation from a dokkaebi, and the like. The discussions are suggested as follows by summarizing those. Firstly, stories on generation of dokkaebi are equipped with main 3 paragraphs. Based on it. the subjects on generation of dokkaebi have been investigated by regarding the designations. The name of dokkaebi is composed of Do + dokkaebi, in which Do signifies a symool of impurity and an element (force) of ghost. And dokkaebi is regarded as a mallet that is an object that transforms into a dokkaebi. Therefore, dokkaebi has been investigated as an existence that comes from by combining with a symool of impurity and a mallet. Secondly. stories on the fires of dokkaebi are equipped with main 3 paragraphs. And the type is taken by centering on confirmation for the substance of the fires of dokkaebi and the peoples consciousness of countermeasures. The people have trusted the existence of dokkaebis in the real space through their experience on the fires of dokkaebis. And some of the experienced people have shown an analytic attitude for the fires of dokkaebis as well. It has been analyzed that the type of simple experience that they watch out the fires that is a countermeasure against those was dominated. Thirdly. stories that people become the rich are composed of that they acquire a wealth through an acquaintance with dokkaebi. The tale does not omit a consciousness of the people never that they should purchase a site with the wealth that has been acquired from dokkaebi. A content that people cast out a dokkaebi that is different from the human being is appeared in the stories and a revenge from dokkaebi is deployed causing by it. And we could shown that a person who cheated out a dokkaebi with his wisdom and come to acquaint with the dokkaebi has become a man of wealth. Therefore. a dokkaebi is set up a symbol of existence that bring to then a wealth in the stories of this kind In spite of the fact that the dokkaebi is depicted as a being that has defeated, the dokkaebi is imaged as an existence of god of wealth that brings them a huge amount of wealth that cannot be imagined. Fourthly. stories of mallets of dokkaebis are made to represent an antagonism of the good and the evil using a parameter of dokkaebi. The good and the bad are set up with a good wood catcher and a neighboring man with selfishness and then the aims that the current society searched for have been suggested through their acts. A viewpoint has been suggested in those that one can get a mallet of dokkaebi by moving the will of Heavens when he is dutiful to his parents and faithful to his wife and children. For example, a function of curing a disease as a well known doctor is suggested and a matter such as solution of a drought, that could be said as a salvation of the people, is realized. And the conscientiousness and ethical sense that have been broken are recovered through forgiveness and tolerance. With these viewpoints, a dokkaebi is an existence that a society having the ethical sense seeks for.
