The aim of this study is to clarify the use of symbolism in the novels by Park, Sany-Ryung, and to examine certain characteristics of his literature. The results of the study are as follows: A symbol doesnt only remind people of the fact that the essence of people and objects has been covered by the order to compromise with historical conditions, but also makes them understand. The study of symbols in novels is related to archetype symbols. If people transcend historical contexts, and intend to archetype, people will acquire archetypal positions, as synthetic and universal beings. In order to recover the restoration of archetypes or mental health, Park has been using archetypes for his works, such as water, moon, trees, soil and fire. Water, moon, and soil refer to a source and an origin: on the other hand, the ground is related to fecundity and abundance, Water used in his novels. 「Namdo」, 「kyoung oe jeons」,「A study of death」,「Chii jo eo ron」symbolizes the universe, life-saving water, and baptism. Moreover, the water is used as the subject matter to rouse life, harmonizing with the moon. The ground is the foundation of everything and is deocribed as a mother. The examples are Deok san daek in 「Namdo 1」, Eomi in 「Namdo 3」, Cheon chi yeo in in 「Ttae yak byeob」, Nu i in 「Ttae yak byeob 3」, Gu dae eup jang in 「Chil jo eo ron」, stones, trees, and altar play a leading part in Parks novels. The space is, Eliade calls, a hierophany. A tree represents the universe for periodical revival, and also symbolizes the power and life of the universe as a passive being. In addition. stones imply firmness of matter, permanency of earthly world, and power of the other actual existence, so it is symbolic of the microcosm, accorded with a tree. stone and altar. The space of the microcosm is used on 「Namdo」 and 「Chil jo eo ron」. Shamanism is in the space as well. A symbol of fire is a victim in Sacrifice rite, purification, destruction and evil. It shows in the novels of Parks, for example, 「Yeol myeong gil」, and 「San buk jang」. Fire in these novels symbolizes revival or purification in particular.
