This article deals with new research methoos. Sigyeong has been interpreted in various senses. After Confucius emphasized the importance of this work, Confucius became the criterion of the interpretation. However since there were only a few referencese, it is difficult to understand the real intention of Confucius. This gap has been partly palliated by the discovery of the new manuscript that was registered on the bamboo. It is certain that this manuscript had been written before the appearance of the king Jinsi. The manuscript reflects the thought of Confucius well. It was argued through this work that the poem was a result of manifestation of the emotion. However, this interpretation no longer was the case after the period of Confucius. It was believed that the poem could play a role of social criticism. By being preoccupied on this role, there was a tendency to distance the purpose of Sigyeong. Based on this fact. it is necessary that studies on critics of Sigyeong grant the importance on manners of the interpretation and the accuracy of the interpretation of the original meaning. Specifically, manners of the interpretation can be swnmarized in three sorts of critics: historical-biographical criticism, reader response criticism and social criticism
