<Chunhyangjeon> was the new drama performed for the sake of an alternative direction of modem dramas when the traditional drama movement was reconstructed and the historical drama was at the height of its prosperity through the period of the war between China and Japan in the late 1930s. While the modern drama of Chosun had its foundation on realism and secured the audience by the illusion effect of reality, the modern drama of Japan didn't guarantee the audience by the combination of Gabuki styles and the realistic aspects of modem dramas. In conclusion, it could be verified that the direction of the modem drama in Chosun and Japan was to secure the audience.
