Seol- Joo lee was a poet who leaded the DaeGu(大邱) Poet Group at time of the liberation from Japan in the 1950s. His poems such as 'Wild Chrysantheum(1947)'(들국화), 'A Torchlight(947)'(巨火) and 'Bohemian Poetry(1948)'(放浪記) inspired the group to greater efforts with their mixed feelings of sorrow and regret(unique to Koreans). He assumed a critical attitude towards the sense of national homogeneity in Korea With a mood of mourning and doom. His poems have become unique works of literature that deserve to be supported historically, when we want to research the early Korean poetry world of 1950s. Therefore we must consider him as a representative of the early poet group and we should recognize his achievements in the history of literature. Mr. Lee's poems have some peculiarities of bohemian temperament, nihilism and the tender passion of pathos. We have to consider Korean national pathos to understand his poems completely.
