Multifaceted Approaches to Multiple Interpretations in Art Education

본고에서는 미술 작품 해석을 위한 이론과 미술 수업 적용을 위한 두 단계 접근 방법을 제시한다. 이를 위해 현대 미술교육에서 미술 작품과 해석을 어떻게 정의하고 교수방법이 연구되어 있는지 문헌을 통해 살펴본다. 그 다음 이를 토대로 미술 교육에서 작품 해석을 어떻게 다면적으로 할 것인지 두 단계의 접근 방법을 제안한다. 첫째는 외부적 접근 방법으로 미술 작품을 그 시대의 사회와 문화가 만들어 낸 산물로 보고 다양한 맥락과 배격을 통해 작품에 관해 조사하는 것이다. 두 번째 단계로는 내부적 접근으로 첫 번째 단계에서 조사한 것을 바탕으로 작품의 주된 아이디어를 찾고 이의 근거를 제시함으로써 작품 해석에 있어서 비평적 사고를 통한 논리적 일관성을 강조한 글 쓰기를 통한 단계이다. 이러한 학습을 통해 미술 작품의 문화적, 사회적 가치와 개인적 의미를 형성해 갈 수 있을 것이다. 주제어 : 감상교육, 포스트모더니즘, 작품의 해석, 배경(context), intertextuality

This article examines theories for interpreting artworks in art education literature and suggests pedagogical approaches to practice in art classrooms. The author reviews postmodern art education theories that define interpretation of artworks and provide recommendation regarding how to teach interpretation. Two approaches are presented for promoting multiple interpretations in art education. First, external approach is to view artworks within larger contexts such as social and cultural environments and to critically interpret artworks through contextual connections. Second, internal approach is to emphasize the coherence of main idea(s) and various evidences in artworks and related contexts. The article investigates how these approaches are implemented in art classrooms by providing examples of questions and student's writing. Students could relate their lives to artworks by making connections and value artworks. Key words : Art appreciation, postmodernism, interpretation of artworks, context, intertextuality
