미술교육에서 테라코타 제작에 관한 기초적 고찰-그 특성과 표현 가능성을 중심으로-

테라코타는 신석기에 토기제작에서 비롯하여 현대에 이르기까지 조각예술에서 뿐만아니라 생활 속에서 많이 제작되고 널리 보급되고 있으며 학교 미술 교육에서도 일반적으로 비중 있게 다루어지고 있다. 그러나 미술도서와 연구에서 제시하고 있는 테라코타에 대한 이해와 표현활동의 내용은 그 본질적인 것에 근거하여 자연과 인간과 생활과의 관계에서 전체적으로 체계 있게 이해하고 경험하기에는 일반성과 전문성이 미흡하다. 테라코타에 대한 이해와 경험은 먼저 창작활동을 통하여 테라코타와 그 재료의 특성을 체험한 다음 자연과 인간과 생활 그리고 제작방법과 표현가능성 등과 연계하여 체계 있게 전체적으로 그 내용을 파악하고 이해할 때 가능하다. 조소에서 표현기법의 특성과 연계한 제작방법과 표현가능성에 대한 연구는 테라코타 이외의 다른 표현기법에 대해서도 해야 할 것이다. 주요어 : 테라코타의 특성, 제작방법, 표현가능성

Since late Stone Age, terra-cotta has been produced and spread not only in art of sculpture but also in real life as pottery and it also has been studied heavily in art education. However, understanding and activities in expression about terra-cotta in literature and researches are not systematic and comprehensive enough for understanding and experience of students. Because the materials is the starting point for the expression of students, it is required to place our emphasis on connecting both comprehension of material and the expression of students to improve students' understanding of terra-cotta. We can find the characteristic of terra-cotta in artist's perspectives to the world, imagination, and idea expressed and tools and materials used. Therefore, it is important for students to know how to pull so many materials and ideas together with teacher's help. The nature of materials is related to visual imagination, creativity, directness and plural values, connectedness, wholeness, and physical traits.
