The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concept of intellectual virtue and to find its Implications for education virtues are habits of good choice They are also desirable dispositions of persons. To have the Virtues is to function well as a human being Virtue is an acquired excellence of the person. The qualities of virtuous people would probably include such traits as wisdom, courage, temperance, justice, honesty, integrity, and generosity Virtuous people are both praiseworthy in their possessors and beneficial to others Some virtues are intellectual, others are moral. Aristotle lists intellectual virtues They are techne(art), episteme(knowledge), phronesis(prudence), sophia(wisdom), and nous(reason). Intellectual virtues the moderns list are intellectual carefulness, perseverance, vigor, flexibility, courage, fair-mindedness, insightfulness, open-mindedness, humility, thoroughness, curiosity for knowledge, etc Intellectual virtues such as prudence and wisdom are very Important for everyday life and education According to Aristotle prudence is a rational quality, concerned with action in relation to things that are good and bad for human beings. It is an adult power of msight into practical matters and an iuitial aptitude developed by experience Prudence is a key virtue that uinifies the intellectual and the moral. Moral virtue cannot be without prudence, because moral virtue is a habit of choosing Prudence cannot be without moral virtue. For prudence is the right reason about things to be done. wisdom is the state of mind able to combine reason and knowledge It means right Judgment in respect of ends as well as means m the conduct of life generally It is the intellectual virtue that enables the agent to arrive at a reasoned conception of the good As an intellectual virtue. It will not be acquired simply through habituation it Will require experience Prudence and wisdom are forces acting Within us to initiate and direct action. They initiate and direct action towards aims of education To have them requires training through the imitation of virtuous persons and practice in acting virtuously. Both also involve handing certain feelings and acquiring the ability to like acting virtuously
