한국대학 상황에서의 문제중심학습 적용사례 비교 연구-경영학, 경제학, 물리학 관련과목을 중심으로-

Comparative Analysis of PBL-applied Classes in the Collegial Environment of Korea-Focused on Business-, Economics-, and Physics- related courses-

21세기 교육패러다임의 주요골자는 학습자 중심의 자기주도 학습의 실현이다. 최근 이 같은 사회적 요구에 기반하여 국내외 주요 대학에서는 보다 혁신적인 교수-학습전략의 개발과 적용에 주력하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 최근 가장 효과적인 교수-학습방법으로 주목되고 있는 문제중심학습의 국내 대학교육 환경 특히 일반 강좌에의 적용가능성을 탐색하는데 있다. 이에 서울 A대학의 여름학기에 개설된 무역상무론과 경제학개론, 그리고 가상강좌인 우주론을 선정하여 사례연구를 실시하고 양적, 질적 분석을 시행하였다. 연구결과 문제중심학습은 기존의 강의법에 비해 많은 시간과 노력을 요구하는 교수-학습방법임에도 불구하고 교수자-학습자 모두에게 실질적인 교육적 효과가 입증됨으로서 한국 대학의 상황에의 적용가능성을 확인하였다. 또한 본 연구를 통하여 새로운 교수-학습 환경으로서의 문제중심학습의 체험과 효과적 학습운영에 대한 인식을 확대하는 한편 대학에서 문제중심학습을 효과적으로 시행하기 위한 교수자, 행정, 시설 및 환경적 측면에서의 시사점을 도출하였다.

The purpose of this study is to apply Problem-Based Learning<PBU, which is mostly used in Medical schools so far, to the other academic areas such as social sciences and physical sciences in order to improve quality of university education. The main reason the PBL was experimented in this study is that it is a well-known instructional method characterized as student-centered, group-based, facilitated or guided by professors, developing effective self-directed learning skills, integrating knowledges, and dealing with clinical and stimulating problems. The PBL experiment was done during Summer semester, 2003, in a major university in Korea. This study experimented 3 classes: one from Business, another from Economics, and the other from Cosmology(a on-line class). And the problems treated were 1 to 3 depending on the characteristics of classes. The result of the study shows that students become more creative, synthetic, cooperative, and active in terms of their learning process; students get ready to resolve real problems confronting them in the world; professors become more and more interested in their instructional contents and methodology for teaching.
