In this paper I have attempted to explain the processes of morphological changes of conjunctive adverb phrase ‘guljihuje’ in Jeju Dialect from the viewpoint of grammaticalization. For this purpose I have focused on grammaticalization of temporal noun ‘je(제)’ and syntactic structure of ‘-n jihuje’(‘-ㄴ 지후제’) which seemed to have some relationship with morphological structure of ‘guljihuje’. The following summarizes what I have discussed about the problems above so far. 1. The morphological structure of ‘guljihuje’ can be analyzed as ‘gul-ji-hu-je’. And the last element ‘-je’ is approved as a clitic form which was derived from lexical word temporal bounded noun 'je(제). As result of this morphologization, ‘-je’ is restricted to its position in this phrase; ‘-je’ is constrained to adjacent to the specific word(host) temporal noun ‘hu(후)’. 2. ‘Gul-ji-hu-je’ can be seen as a kind of blending form of Chinese syntactic structure and Jeju Dialect. If so then the second element ‘-ji-’ would be a empty word ‘之’ of Chinese syntactic structure ‘其之後’. 3. The syntactic structure of ‘-n jihuje’(‘-ㄴ 지후제’)can be analyzed as ‘-n -ji-hu-je’. In this structure a second element ‘-ji-’ which has phonetically same form of ‘-ji-’ in ‘gul-ji-hu-je’ is a temporal bounded noun as complementizer in the embedding sentence. Therefore we can conclude that this ‘-ji-' is different form ‘-ji-’ in ‘gul-ji-hu-je’. 4. In Jeju Dialect Morphological changes of ‘gul-ji-hu-je’ > ‘gu-hu-e’ (그 후에)and ‘-n -ji-hu-je’ > ‘-n -hu-e’(’-ㄴ 후에) have progressed by reduction or partially the way phrase and clause internal substitution with similar meaning morphemes. And these old and new forms have coexisted as synchronic variants. By the way, these new forms can be called as ‘new form’ which came from other regional dialect or standard Korean in terms of language contact. 5. Finally, As I have observed in the context of discussion of morphological changes of ‘guljihuje’, there have been processes of renewal in grammaticalization and language contact at the same period in this Dialect. Therefore archaic forms such as ‘guljihuje’ and ‘-n jihuje’ could have been coexisting with new forms for a long period of time.
