The purpose of tills study is to examine the current state of elementary English education based on the Seventh National Elementary English Curriculum. This study was conducted with a questionnaire-based survey for elementary school students, elementary school teachers, and English specialists The participants were 4,121 students, 455 elementary school teachers, and 10 specialists The questionnaire were distributed to the participants according to a stratified ration of the whole population They were given a questionnaire concerning their English curriculum, English textbooks, and their English classes based on the Seventh National English Curriculum Statistical analyses, including one-way ANOVA show that 1) the amount of classroom activity is not too many for the students, but the students need one more class per week in the 3rd and 4th grades, 2) the textbook level is not too high for the students, except that the students in the urban areas feel that they have more difficult with English textbooks, 3) the students need more student-centered activities in their English classrooms; 4) we should develop level-based materials for listening and reading materials which should then be distributed to the teachers; 5) we need further research on the current textbooks used in Korea, as well as those used in foreign countries under similar circumstances
