Sexual Scripts of Married People in their 30s and 40s

Interest in sexuality has increased in family studies, and script theory has been useful in research because it includes multiple levels and aspects of sexuality. The purpose of this study is to use script theory to explore sexual scripts of married people in their 30s and 40s. We examine the double standard, the interrelational sexual script, and the internal sexual script. Data were collected from 695 married men and women in their 30s and 40s. They had more than one child and lived in the Seoul metropolitan area Major findings of the study are as follows. First, participants did not support or reject the sexual double standard, but married women in their 30s approved less of the sexual double standard than did married women in their 40s. Second, for the interrelational sexual script(ie , for dyadic sexual self-regulation)men have the locus of control more than women in marital sexual relationships Third, men and women have ascribed positive and active meanings to sexuality overall
