Women work worldwide, but with the labor market becoming more flexible, women are disproportionately employed in unskilled, low wage jobs. Korea's gendered labor market has been sustained and intensified through the contingent jobs of women This article attempts to understand and interpret how contingent work circumstances influence the values and attitudes toward marriage of graduate women in the labor force In-depth interviews were conducted with 23 unmarried graduate workbag women aged 25-29 years One important finding is that the more satisfaction graduate women feel about their work, they tend to retain and strengthen a 'traditional' view of marriage. A second key finding is that among women who are not satisfied with their work Situation, self-actualization is associated with viewing marriage as optional rather than necessary Based on these findings, we argue that if graduate women's labor force participation is restricted to increasing the quantity, a traditional gendered division of labor is reinforced. As such, unmarried graduate working women in Korea will retain and reproduce a patriarchal marriage system Gender inequality will persist unless continuous efforts are made and effective anti-discrimination strategies are instituted
