Spider fauna and diversity were reported from an island, Wi-Do in Jeollabuk-do, Korea. A number of spiders collected during the survey were 2909 individuals and all of them, with the exception of 983 individuals, were identified. The samples included 107 speeies, which belong to 59 genera of 19 families. Five of 19 families were most frequently collected: Araneidae (26.8%), Thomisidae (22.1%), Pisauridae (13.8%), Linyphiidae (7.7%), and Lycosidae (7.1%). Of the collected samples, most common species were as follows: Cyclosa octotuberculata (19.3%), Misumenops tricuspidatus (17.7%), Floronia exornata (11.3%), Pardosa astrigera (9.6%), Araneus ventricosus (5.9%), and Achaearanea tepidariorum (5.3%). Especially, Uroctea compactilis L. Koch, 1878 was first reported in Wi-do. Thus, distribution of Uroctea compactilis extended to more northern area than previously reported distribution area of the species. When spider fauna of Wi-do were compared with those from other published studies of Korean islands, the following five species were endemic in only Wi-do: Steatoda albomaculata (De Geer, 1778), Alopecosa licenti (Schenkel, 1953), Myrmarachne formicaria (De Geer, 1778), Pardosa brevivulva Tanaka, 1975, and Clubiona kurilensis Bosenberg et Strand, 1906. This survey is a portion of an ongoing long-term project to understand zoogeography or Korean spider fauna, especially focusing on spider fauna of Korean islands.
