Korea and Japan have traditionally been criticized by their trade partner countries for their anti competitive practices as trade barriers, particularly, from the viewpoint of the competition policy on the trade policy. This paper is a comparative study of the anti competitive practices in domestic markets used by Korea and Japan analyzing their competition policies on trade policies, considering the internationally growing interest in anti competitive practices under the WTO mechanism. This comparative study alms to examine the difference in regulating the anti-competitive practices of Korea and Japan, and suggests some directions for the harmonization and establishment of common rules to regulate the practices of the two countries. This paper, however, does not consider the fact that competition policy or anti competitive practices are substantially affected by the historical, political, cultural or social environments of the individual countries. This study is expected to be followed by an interdisciplinary analysis of the anti competitive business practices of the two countries to discover effective and cooperative policy directions for solving the trade and competition related problems of the two countries
