Aspects and Meanings of Adaptation and Arrangement of the Chinese Chosun-jok Folk-tales Confirmed in Literature

The Chosun-jok in China(Korean-Chinese people) bear a full burden of our nation's hardship. They were destined to share with the same community as we only ninety years or so ago. But, at present, they are separated from us in the same cultural community. One of the things that contain the cultural community images most favorably is folk-tales. Folk-tales intensively portray the creativity of verbal communication. In this respect, it is extremely significant to unearth, preserve and study the Chosun-jok folk-tales. Further details are summarized as follows. 1) Approximately 2100 Folk-tales of Chinese Chosun-jok confirmed in literature were published up to the present. These folk-tales of Chinese Chosun-jok confirmed in literature were not recorded faithfully in terms of narrating situations and usage but some were dealt with in the name of "arrangement". To grasp such circumstances roughly, I found out 14 articles having the same titles as those confirmed in literature among some 140 folk-tales recorded in the actual places of China and compared them with one another. 2) The aspects of adaptation arrangement are divided into the five categories of ①the same one as the oral tradition ②contraction of detailed circumstances ③replacement of events or conditions ④elaborated expansion of detailed circumstances ⑤added expansion of events or conditions. 3) Among the 14 folk-tales, 3 articles belong to the category of ①. But, these folk-tales also have been slightly rearranged, for example, through changes from the colloquial style to the literary one. 4) Folk-tales belonging to the categories of ②, ③, ④, ⑤ are one article in each case. This is because there are so limited articles of comparative materials that it is hard to demarcate the borderlines among them. However, it is inferred that in the category of ②, humorous and obscene stories were subject to contracted arrangement, in the category of ③, entertaining events and circumstances were partially replaced with instructive ones and in the category of ④, edifying stories were chiefly expanded with some elaboration. 5) But in the category of ⑤, it is impossible to infer what occasion caused its expansion. This is also due to the lack of materials. 6) Limitations noticed in this thesis are mainly due to the lack of recorded materials. With abundant materials, the study will be more convincing in making its points clear. Waiting for the time to gather plenty materials, this paper is attempted to provide a methodological possibility for the study of its kind.
