This study aims at analyzing the animation"s sociocultural accommodation process and its impact in the multi-media era, enhancing its status as one of the mass medium categories. For its main purpose, this study illuminates the juveniles" accommodation characteristics according to their access media, preferred genres, genders, and ages. The reasons to select the juveniles as the target group are that they are the main animation accommodators and that they are believed to be the most sensitive social group to the mass medium impact because their sociocultural capacity has yet to be mature. This basic assumption was helpful to induce the significant factors of the animation"s sociocultural impacts on the juveniles. In chapter 2, this study reviewed the social psychology theories proper for its theme, the animation"s sociocultural impact on the juveniles. This study found that the animation as one of the visual mass media can impact on the juveniles emotionally, behaviorally, and cognitively. In chapter 3, this study reviewed the literatures which deal with the changes of the social paradigms related to the animation accommodation in the multi-media era. The visual mass media are expected to play an important role in the bilateral communication environment between the media and the accommodators, and the increasing trend of accommodators" selecting their own access media will make the accommodator segmentation inevitable. In this context, the animation media is expected to raise its own values related to the entertainment in the cultures, and the social utilization in the educations and the industries. In conclusion, analyzing the animation"s sociocultural impacts on the juveniles, this study succeeded to emphasize that it is one of the dominant mass media influencing the juveniles with the survey result, and since the software related variable, i.e. the preferred genres, has more dominant sociocultural impacts on the juveniles than the hardware related variable, i.e. the preferred media or the accommodator segmentation variable, i.e. the gender groups and the age groups, this study suggests that developing the various animation genres and reinforcing their contents are the effective ways to stimulate the growth potential of animation as one of the mass media, which can enhance the juveniles" social and cultural capacities for good.
