A Hearth was a place that people in Neolithic Age made a fire in, 174 spots of Hearth had been excavated on 9 sites of the Yellow Seashore. This Hearth has 4 kinds of different shapes, some features drawn from these Hearths' properties will be described below; 1. In geographical conditions, the Hearth was classified into 2 kinds. One is a seashore Hearth (under a elevation of 10m), such as sand dune, Sandy beach, and Sandbar. The other is Hearth on the slope of hillock(above an elevation of 10m). 2. The shapes of the Hearth are circular or oval, most of its forms are second(Ⅱ) type. 3. The size of Hearth is: for the circle type, 90~120cm in diameter, the major axis 80~140 cm and the minor axis 50~130cm. Most size of Hearth in house sites usually are under 1m. 4. The open Hearths were built up by bands but just one Hearth was found in every single house sites. 5. A special type of the open Hearth - I named it as “Yellow Sea-type Hearth” - has been found in group on a seashore and has second type of Hearth in common whatever its shape is circular or oval.
