A Survey of the Research Papers That Appeared in Foreign Languages Education: On the Occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the Foundation

This study surveyed 348 research papers that appeared in Foreign Languages Education published between summer 1995 and fall 2004 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the foundation. Each research paper has been classified according to the foreign language and the primary research topic. The research topics were then cross-checked according to foreign language. It was found that the highest percentage (66.57%) of the research papers were written by English language education researchers, followed by Japanese (9.83%), and Spanish (3.65%). The highest percentage of research topics involved application of multimedia and elementary and early language education (9.57%) respectively. The study results suggest that considering the academic identity of the journal, the Korea Association of Foreign Languages Education, the publisher of the journal, should make an effort to promote publication of research papers as well as deal with a greater variety of research topics in the papers from foreign language education fields other than that of English education, which has taken a vast portion of the total number of the research parers included in the journal.
