The purpose of the paper is to investigate the roles of language anxiety, perceived competence, willingness to communicate and motivation as predictors of second language communication frequency by applying MacIntyre and Charas (1996)'s L2 communication model to Korean EFL students. Three hundred and four university students participated in the self~reporting survey and their responses were collected using structural modeling to process tile results. The findings are as follows: as hypothesized in the base model, WTC affects L2 communication frequency, perceived competence and L2 anxiety were found to be causes of WTC, L2 anxiety was found to negatively affect perceived competence, and perceived competence was found to directly affect frequency. From a data-driven path, a direct path from perceived competence to motivation and a direct path from motivation to frequency were found to be statistically significant in the study.
