A Study on the Relevance of Secondary English Based on the 7th National Curriculum: From the Perspective of Quantity and Level

The purpose of this study is to examine the current state of secondary English education based on the Seventh National Secondary English Curriculum. This study was conducted with a questionnaire-based survey for secondary school students, secondary school teachers, and English specialists. The participants were 6,224 students, &41 English teachers, and 10 specialists. The questionnaires were distributed to the participants according to a stratified ration of the whole population. They were given a questionnaire concerning their English curriculum, English textbooks, and their English classes based on the Seventh National Curriculum Statistical analyses, including one-way ANOVA show that U the amount of classroom activity is too large for the students; 2) the level of the textbook is too high for middle school students, except that most of the students in the rural areas feel that they have little difficulty with English textbooks. 3) the students need separated classes according to their proficiency; 4) they also need separated textbooks for their level-based classes.
