A study of an exclamation on the discourse of Korean and Japanese languages in terms of face theory.

This is a study of exclamation as used by the participants in the flow of discourse viewed as face act Exclamation not only shows agreement or an expression of feeling between speaker and listener as studied so far, but also is a discourse factor that has face-effects from listener to speakers face. So to speak, exclamation has functions to save, threaten or neutralize speakers face. Especially, among the functions of exclamation, expression of feeling and demand of the right to speak have a function to save the others face. And also, the methods, timing and frequency of expressing exclamation can be used as ways of face-effects to the other, which are applied directly to face act by the participants in a conversation.
