"Pour boiling water?" or "Pour boiled water?": How to apply lexical approach and concordance analysis in secondary English education.

With the increased emphasis on 'focus on form' in language education, lexical approach has been considered as a good way to teach patterns of language, which was traditionally thought of as grammar. Recent developments in corpus studies give powerful tool to lexical approach. One of the useful tools from corpus studies is concordance analysis which shows how a certain word collocate with other words. This paper explores how lexical approach and concordance analysis can be applied to the secondary English education utilizing middle school English textbooks. Before demonstrating such an application with several examples, this paper reviews lexical approach and the use of concordancing in English education.
