It is 6 years since Korea and Japan concluded fisheries agreement, establishing new fisheries order in Northeast Asia around Korean peninsular based on Exclusive Economic Zone regime. According to the agreement, two intermediate zones or provisional measures zones were established in the overlapping zones in the seas of Northeast Asia. It was because the two coastal States agreed to shelve delicate issues on maritime boundary delimitation during transitional period. Therefore, many agreements have yet to be reached on maritime boundaries between Korea and Japan. The new Korea-Japan fisheries agreement has now entered a stable stage. It, however, is true that Korea and Japan still have some issues left unsettled such as control of marine resources, protection of the marine environment, marine scientific research etc. Under these circumstances, relevant issues regarding Japanese policy on the management of the intermediate zone and settlement of maritime disputes were analyzed in this essay. In concrete terms, disputes over the legal status of the intermediate zone, Japan's point of view regarding control of marine resources, the procedure of dispute settlement in the fisheries agreement, delimitation of maritime boundaries, Japan's stance toward international trial, etc. were examined. As a conclusion, some suggestions regarding maritime policy regarding the management of fisheries agreement and negotiation over boundary delimitation were added.
