여자 대학생 소비자의 허영과 성형요구 -부산, 울산 및 김해를 중심으로-

Female College Students’ Vanity and Need for Aesthetic Surgery: In Busan, Ulsan and Kimhai Cities

이 논문은 부산, 울산, 김해의 여자 대학생 517명을 조사대상으로 하여 허영의 수준과 성형수술에 대한 요구 수준을 알아보고, 허영의 차원과 성형수술에 대한 요구수준과의 상관관계를 밝히고, 허영 유형에 따라 성형수술 에 대한 요구가 차이가 나는지를 알아봄으로써 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 부산, 울산 및 김해 지역의 여자 대학생들은 외모에 대한 관심과 성취에 대한 관심 및 평가는 척도의 중간에 해당되는 보통수준이고, 외모에 대한 평가는 척도의 중간 보다 낮은 수준인 ‘그렇지 않다’에 해당되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 성형수술에 대한 요구는 점과 흉터의 제거수술이 가장 높게 나타났으나 수준이 보통에 해당되었다. 셋째, 외모와 성취에 대하여 관심이 많고, 성취에 대한 평가가 높을수록 성형수술을 많이 요구하고 있었다. 넷째, 허영성향이 강한 유형이 허영성향이 약한 유형과 평가중시 집단에 비하여 성형수술에 대한 요구수준이 차이가 남으로써 허영은 양적으로 뿐만 아니라 질적으로 성형수술에 대한 요구와 차이를 보인다고 볼 수 있다.

The purpose of this article was to investigate the relationship of vanity and need for aesthetic surgery. The data were collected from 517 female college students in Pusan, Ulsan, and Kimhai. The mean for levels of an excessive concern of one’s physical appearance and personal achievement and a positive view of personal achievement were slightly above the midpoint. The mean for levels of a positive view of physical appearance was slightly below the midpoint. The need for aesthetic surgery of the removal of specks and scars appeared to be the highest, but the level was slightly above the midpoint. The mean for levels of an excessive concern of one’s physical appearance and personal achievement and a positive view of personal achievement were positively correlated with the need for aesthetic surgery. The need for aesthetic surgery among the vanity group was significantly higher than the positive viewer and non-vanity group. Therefore the need for aesthetic surgery was influenced by the quantity and quality of vanity.
