This paper aims to find out the significant meaning of "murder" manifested in Hwasangibong. A murder case in a literary work is not just an accident but includes the meaning of the work and the authorial intention. The implication involved in the murder of Hwasangibong is a scene of stepmother of Mrs. Jang to plot the murder of Lee Seong, princess Hwa-Yang and Akiybi plot the murder of king. Especially, a characteristic of this work is a scene of plotting to kill king. It's different from other works. A scene of plotting to kill king cause a solution of the conflict. The implication involved in the murder of Hwasangibong is a manifestation of stepmother Mrs. Jang and Akiybi's desire to ensure their social status. In other words, the murder in this work becomes a key to understand the protagonist's character and others' around him. Besides, the author also reveals social problems and strong dissatisfaction by delineating the dramatic case of murder in this work. But, despite the author's intention to solve dramatically the conflict in reality, the reader of this work can notice that the author has covered the nature of social problems when he closes the work with stepmother Mrs. Jang and Akiybi's repentance to wipe out their crime.
