This paper is aiming at providing story writing learners with an evalua- tion standard after their rough drafts. The standard is provided from the thought that story writing has the characteristics of novel as a genre and it is also an interactive communicative text in which writers' desires meet readers' expectations. The evaluation standard as a genre is divided into two levels, story and expression. How much the characters, plot and setting in the story level, and the point of view and sentences(dialogs and narratives) in the expression level can contribute to the creation of the story meaning are the bases of the evaluation standard. The bases of the communicative standard are preciseness as an evidence of interpreting the story, congruity of the way writer provides information to readers, and relevance being able to draw a consistent interpretation of the story. All these standards are focused on how much the writer's intention accords with readers' expectations. Considering the process of reading his own draft for correction for story writing learner as an act including reading from both reader's standpoint and writer's, this paper provides the standards in the place where the genre evaluation standard interacts with the communicative standard. First, the reading from a reader's standpoint is considered as a synthetic evaluation. With the unity as an evaluation basis the standards of evaluating the story level and the expression level are provided. Next, considering the step of examining the causes of the problems found through the synthetic evaluation as an analytic evaluation by reading from writer's standpoint, the standards of evaluating the story level and the expression level specifically are provided on the bases of preciseness and congruity. This paper can be a specific evaluation standard in an interactive place between the standard of genre and that of communicative. And this standard can be a useful way of evaluating works in story writing classes, having writing learners see their works objectively and modify them in a meta-cognitive activity, and furthermore offer writing learner colleagues a frame of providing diagnostic information.
