This study aims to show the framework of Korean modern poetry database (KPD) and to investigate the structure and the principles of compilation of Korean Poetry Corpus (KoPoCo) and finally to discuss its application to the literary study of Korean modern poetry. The KPD has been compiled from early 1990s and its results were published partially as electronic Korean Poetry Concordance and some metadata and original texts of it are now serviced at the Korean Poetry Network. The periodical range spans from 1923 to 1950, so to speak the database is consisted of Korean modern poetry from its beginning to the Korean War period. The KPD contains several databases in the form of MS Access table, which are the List of Anthologies of Poetry, the Index of Articles of Poetry, the Korean Poetry Corpus, the Concordance of Korean Poetry, the Dictionary of Poetic word and some statistical reports of the KoPoCo. The KoPoCo is the core of KPD and also a foundation of computational studies of Korean poetry. The Modern Poetry Text-base is compiled electronically from the anthologies originally published in paper. It adapts the abbreviated TEI encoding system and now it is stored in a MS Access database. To compile it as an electronic document, there are inevitable transformational tasks and considerations such as how to represent the poetic form, the writing customs of paper texts, the hyphenation and the spacing, the problems of Hanja orthography and sentence symbols, and the process of error correction and annotation. Poetic words are ascertained by the lemmatization process. To isolate the basic form from the inflectional form of the words, over 600 thousands words of the KoPoCo are scrutinized manually. All of the homonyms and part of the heteronyms are analyzed to represent the relation of the poetic words. The KPD is conditionally opened to the community of scholars of Korean literature and language. The KoPoCo can be accessed at the Nuri-media web-site if the university or organization has an authorized permission. The list of anthologies and articles of poetic works of Korean modern times is now servicing at my personal KoreanPoetry.net web site. Accepting some conditions, any scholar of humanities can participate in the project of Korean Poetry Digital Library.
