『An Open Space』 has a trait of a space fiction in terms of a parallel arrangement of the South and North Korea, a crossing of the past and the present, and so on. In this paper, I will look into the spatial characteristic perceived by Myoung-jun Lee, his changing process, and the spatial form of 『An Open Space』. To begin with, the spatiality of 『An Open Space』 is revealed by showing the South and North Korea in a parallel way and contrasting them. To Myoung-jun, the South Korea is recognized as a space of the freedom and expressed as a black color. The North Korea is recognized as a space of the equality and expressed as a grey color. Later, Myoung-jun is united with seegulls in the sea. 'Black→Grey→White' are achromatic colors and become bright by degrees. Also, the South and North Korea, the land spaces, are considered a space of the inside, a space of hurt and death, a space without relationship. But the sea is considered a space of the outside, a space of life, a space of relationship In 『An Open Space』, Myoung-jun Lee moves on like this: 'the south→the north→the concentration camp→the sea'. Myoung-jun stays in "a room of the second floor" in the south and works at "the newspaper office" in the north. And he escapes into "the cave" during the war and heads for a neutral country by "ship". In other words, he moves downward little by little and moves as follows: "a secret room→an open place→a secret room(cave)→an open place(sea) metaphorically. With a change of space, Myoung-jun's mental space becomes smaller and smaller like this: "a room→width of two arms→a sleeping bag" and the recognition about himself changes into "green, fresh→grey, withered→withered and cut thing→a bunch of banana withered without worth". Seeing about spatial movement of the south→the north→the concentration camp→the sea, we can know that 『An Open Space』 is unfolded in a space of a "fan". So, the space of 『An Open Space』 can be made up of a fan shape. We can see that Myoung-jun Lee moves from the edge of the fan to the inside of the fan.
