Comparative Study on the Curriculum of Law School, The Univ. of Nottingham & Foreign Trade Dept. of Korean Universities - with a special emphasis on the Academic Roots of International Commere -

This article at aims rooting up the origin of international commerce as an independent academic field. The research methods taken by this study is two-fold. One is the comparison of the curriculums of International Trade departments at Korean Universities and the curriculum for the LLM in International Commercial Law at the School of Law, University of Nottingham. The reason for the selection of the University of Nottingham for this study can be pointed out the similarities between them in terms of academic subjects. Another is the analysis of academic references made by Korean scholars and academicians who are specialised in the field of international commerce for issuance of their academic works. Through these explorations, this study elucidates that the root of academic origin for the international commerce is closely related to the legality of international commercial activities. In that respect, it is suggested that the major concepts and characteristics of international commerce as an academic field are mainly based on the legality of international commerce together with the practices and customs thereof.
