The purpose of this study is to explore the media text guidance of Korean education for elementary school. Through it, it aims to provide an systematic alternative of media text education to foster students' ability to critically understand and express the contents of media text. The contents and research tool of this study are as follows. First, to build the theoretical background of composing media textbook of elementary Korean education, this study explores the concept and change of communication environment and media, the type and guidance of media text and the present condition of media education from Australia, Canada, the UK and USA. Second, it analyzes the 7th Curriculum and investigates the media contents of Korean education presented in the curriculum and the textbook. Third, based on the present condition and the preliminary theories of media text of elementary Korean education, this study provides a study model of media text class. Elementary Korean education using media is a procedure in which the four function of hearing, speaking, reading and writing works comprehensively. And the purpose of it is first, to enhance the ability to use language, second, enhance the ability to critically understand and express the media text, and finally, to increase the communication capability and intelligence. Meanwhile, there are several problems to be solved in order to include the contents and methods of Korean education using media into proper curriculum. First of all, the contents of elementary Korean education using media should be ranked according to the level of students' intellectual capability. For that, a basic research is required to provide contents of Korean education using media text according to the intellectual development of elementary and middle school students. How to combine the traditional contents of Korean education (listening, speaking, reading, writing, general knowledge of Korean, literature) and Korean education using media text is also an important problem in the curriculum of Korean education. And the media education of foreign countries observed in this study has lots of meaning on our media education. The part of “watching” is included along with speaking, listening, reading and writing in other countries curriculum of mother tongue, it is expected to be introduce the part of “watching” in the curriculum of Korean education. This study analyzes the 7th Curriculum and explores the contents of Korean education using media presented in the curriculum and the textbook. In addition, based on the present condition and preliminary theories of elementary Korean education using media text, it provides a study model of media text class and a concrete teaching plan with ideas of progressive activity. This study wishes to be help foster students' ability to critically understand and express the media text, build the direction of elementary Korean education using media text and develop more concrete teaching plans.
