This study examined possibilities for effective elaborative reading through educational dramatics based on constructive epistemology and the objectives of reading education. Educational dramatics could be used in a concrete technique for elaborative reading. The focus of discussion for this purpose is as follows : First, a theoretical background for the application of educational dramatics to elaborative reading teaching was developed, and then a methodology developed. Next, this study inquired into how this methodology might affect the learners' elaborative reading through an ethnographic study and examined the results. In Chapter Ⅱ, the stage of the elaborative reading development is introduced centered on elaborative reading's essence and types. In Chapter Ⅲ, the essence of educational dramatics is explained in its application to elaborative reading. In Chapter Ⅳ, the correlation between the elaborative reading and educational dramatics is explained. First, each strategy of the elaborative reading, and the method and criteria for applying educational dramatics is presented. Next, the curriculum content that will be applied to the elaborative reading is analyzed. Then the elaborative reading and educational dramatics strategy is presented unit by unit, and lesson by lesson through the textbook showing the correlation with each stage of learning development. In Chapter Ⅴ, preceding teaching-learning models in educational dramatics and elaborative reading are examined with respect to Korean reading education, and the elaborative reading technique applied to educational dramatics is classified by elaborative strategies. The process of educational dramatics and elaboration are considered, centered on senior elementary school students. The teaching-learning model for elaborative reading was used in a practical way by applying examples for each unit. Lastly, in Chapter Ⅵ, the elaborative reading technique was used in two senior classes of an elementary school, and the results were discussed. Elaborative reading skills through educational dramatics is based on the correlation of elaborative reading strategies and educational drama; this study is bases on a constructive view that emphasizes procedural knowledge. Elaborative reading can help students to understand deeper meanings through the educational dramatics.
