금강산 관광의 경험과 담론분석: '관광객의 시선'과 자연의 사회적 구성

The Experiences and Discourses of the Kumkangsan Tour: 'Tourist Gaze' and Social Construction of Nature

본고는 금강산관광의 문화정치적 함의를 신문화지리학의 관점에서 분석한다. 연구는 자연의 사회적 구성론에 기반하여, 자연의 순수한 이미지가 어떻게 사회적, 담론적으로 구성되는가를 검토한다. 먼저 본 연구는 금강산관광의 경험분석을 통해 '관광객의 시선'이 변형되면서 관광의 성격을 변화시키는가를 검토 한다. 그리고, 금강산관광에서 특정한 자연경관이 어떻게 여러 집단에 의해 차별적으로 겸험되고 정치적으로 동원되는가를, 중첩된 담론적 대립구도를 통해 검토한다. 첫째, 금강산관광의 시작과 함께 남한내에서 개발과 보존의 담론이 충돌하며, 양측 모두 민족 내러티브를 통해 정당성을 구한다. 둘째, 금강산 관광은 남과 북의 남성성과 여성성이 병치되는 공간이며, 이는 국토의 성적인 재현(gendered representation)이 역사적으로 변화하는 과정이다. 셋째, 금강산은 자연의 신성함, 순수함에 대하여 남한과 북한의 상이한 견해가 경합하는 정치적 경관으로 경험된다.

This study explores the cultural-political implications of the Kumkangsan Tour. I examine how the image of pure nature is socially and discursively structured based on the theory of social construction of nature. By examining the experiences of the Tour, the distortion of conventional 'tourist gaze' is presented. Then, I explore how a specific natural landscape is differentially mobilized by diverse social groups, which is done by the formation of the overlapping dualistic discourses. First, with the initiation of the Kumkangsan Tour, the discourses of development and conservation of nature(Mt. Kumkangsan) are brought into conflict with each other, both of which attempt to legitimate their own visions by appealing to national narratives. Second, the masculinity of the South and the femininity of the North are juxtaposed implying the transtormation of gendered metaphor of national territory. Third, Mt. Kwnkangsan is experienced as a political landscape where different viewpoints of the sacred and innocent nature are contested between the South and the North.
