A Comparative Essay about Studies of Sino-Korean Literature in the South Korea and the North Korea - Focusing on Recent Studies of Sino-Korean Literature in the North Korea

This paper is aim to compare studies of sino-korean literature in the South Korea and the North Korea. Especialy this paper focused on recent studies of sino-korean literature in the North Korea. The result of comparative analysises is inferred as follows. The trend of recent studies in the North Korea have attached great importance to the "literary criticism of Juche" which is based on "Juche idea"(it means self-reliance and independence in the politics, economy, culture, ideology). The literary criticism of Juche is based on the principle which empasize the creative combinaition of national literary forms and socialist ideology. Recent studies of the North Korea have searched for national characteristics of sino-korean literature in accordance with the Juche criticism. These studies continually empasize patriotic sentiments, people's virtue, national life style, beauty of homland which were expressed in the literary works. By the way these studies ignore the truth that sino-korean literature had developed both of special characteristics(national characteristics) and universal characteristics(they had been receptive to Chinise classical literature). This thing is different from the trend of studies in the South Korea basically. Values and meanings of sino-korean literature have been searched from various angles in the South Korea. The different standpoint of literary study can not be disregarded. Nevertheless, we can trescend differences in ideology or political systems between the South Korea and the North Korea, and discuss on important notions of literary study together. For example, realism and romanticism, patriotism and nationalism, class cconsciousness and social class(intellectual class) consciousness, "Silhak" and modernity, etc.
