A Study on the Communist Character and the Maturing Plot in North Korean Novel Peebada

This thesis has analyzed North Korean novel "Peebada" in terms of 'communist character' and 'the maturing plot.' Soon-Nyu, a heroine, rounds into a subjective communist, undergoing a tentative stage, an uncompleted stage, and decisive one, for she grows into the state of self-consciousness from the unconscious one, and once again the state of maturity from the immature one. She is a round character who changes from an ignorant and naive rural woman into one of the active participants of the anti-Japanese armed struggle. This process of change has organized the maturing plot, so Soon-Nyu, finally, becomes a man of the communist type. "Peebada" instructs inevitability and justness of the anti-Japanese armed fight which everyone, men and women all alike, enters for the restoration of independence through the process of change. Soon-Nyu has been created as a model to accomplish the objectives of communist loyalism for the party demanded by North Korean society, the property of laboring classes , and the people's qualities. She is a typical character who presents the communist character. "Peebada" enlightens people upon how to live, work, and struggle as a true lead for socialist revolution and construction by the creation of pattern. This work, that is, cultivates people on communist view of human and world. It is considered that maturing plot of the Bildungsroman in which hero(heroine)'s growth helps readers' has been introduced to achieve them.
