A Study of Youth's Sexual Assault on Cyber-Space

It has been suggested several major factors in explaining sexual harrassment or assault. This study intends to examine how there is difference in explaining between cyber sexual assault and real sexual assault. I suggest that sexual desire may be more important in real world than cyber space. In addition, both feminist view of sexual domination(such as rape myth acceptance) and violent cultural factors(attitudes favorable to violence) are more applicable in explaining real sexual assault than online sexual assault. In contrast, I hypothesize that cyber sexual assault is motivated by fun or excitement. Those who have pro-attitudes toward cyber sexual assault are also more likely to commit sexual assaults on cyber space. Using data from 559 male middle and high school students, this study tests whether there are differences in explanation of real and cyber sexual assault. Results support my hypotheses and also find that low self-control has a significant effects on both real and cyber sexual assault.
