The course "English Romantic Poetry" is one of the most popular courses offered independently or as a part of the more comprehensive course "English Poetry" at the departments of English Language and Literature in most universities in Korea. At present, then, what is the most urgent task required in teaching English Romantic poetry in Korea? In my opinion, it is the editing and publication of an anthology of English Romantic poetry by several specialists which preserves the initial purity of an author's text, offers ample notes for Korean students, and takes into consideration recent trends of Romantic studies. It is safe to say that until now all the Korean annotated editions of English Romantic poetry have not paid due regard to the requisites of textual criticism, to say nothing of the modes of existence of English Romantic poetry. This paper aims at mapping out the outlines of an ideal anthology for Korean students and reexamining the fundamental issues of English Romantic poetry.
