An Evaluation of Korea-Chile FTA Based on the Polynomial Lag Model

본 연구는 우리나라의 첫 번째 FTA체결국인 한-칠레간 무역성과를 Almon lag에 의한 다항시차분포모형으로 분석하였다. 우선, 개별추정방정식의 경우 한-칠레간 수출과 무역수지는 영향력이 크지만, 수입, 상대수출, 가격 및 소득교역조건은 영향력이 미미한 것으로 분석되었다. 한-칠레 무역의 변동요인을 파악하기 위해 차분변수도 분석하였는데 그 결과에 의하면, 수출입 변동은 영향력이 크지만 무역수지 변동은 그 영향력이 미미한 것으로 나타났다. 한-칠레 FTA협정 전후를 dummy 변수로 구분하여 분석한 결과에 의하면 무역수지, 수입변동, 그리고 무역수지변동의 영향력이 크게 확대된 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 다항시차분포모형의 분석결과에 의하면, 한-칠레간 수출입은 t=-1기에, 수출, 수입, 그리고 무역수지의 변동은 t=-2기에 그 영향력이 극대화되지만, 무역수지, 상대수출, 가격 및 소득교역조건의 변동은 시차의 변화에 따라 특별한 특성을 나타내지 않는 것으로 분석되었다.

This paper is basically designed to evaluate an achievement of Korea-Chile FTA by applying the polynomial lag model. First of all, regression analysis on nine of individual structural equations have been performed, and the results revealed that the export and trade balance are playing important role, whereas the impact on Korean economy caused by imports, relative exports, and both price and income terms of trades are trivial. To identify the effect resulted from volatilities, structural equations are formed by the first differenced variable on exports, imports, and the trade balance. The result shows that, unlike volatility on the trade balance, the volatility on exports and imports are effecting heavily on Korean Economy. Also, nine of dummy variables are induced in each individual structural equation to capture the effectiveness of Korea-Chile FTA, and it turns out that the trade balance, the volatility on imports, and the volatility on the trade balance have been changed to strong factors since Korea-Chile FTA had been valid. The analysis by polynomial lag model indicates that the optimal number of lags for exports and imports are t=-1, and for the volatility on exports, imports, and the trade balance are t=-2. However, the optimal number of lags for the trade balance, relative exports, and both price and income terms of trades are not specified.
