성인교육이론에 있어 경험과 학습의 의미

The Meanings of Experience and Learning in the Adult Educational Theories

자기주도적 학습과 경험을 통한 학습이 강조되는 현 지식사회의 특성상, 그리고 자신의 수행을 가시화, 행동화하는 것이 강조되는 직업인으로서의 성인 학습자의 특성상, 성인교육에 있어 경험과 학습은 그 어느 때보다 강조되고 있다. 본고에서는 특히 교육철학의 주요 사조 중, 각 이론의 쟁점에서 경험과 학습이 논의의 가장 중심에 위치한다고 평가될 수 있는 성인교육에 대한 진보주의적 접근과 인본주의적 접근, 행동주의적 접근, 비판적 접근을 중심으로, 각 이론이 논하는 성인교육에 있어 경험과 학습이 갖는 의미를 살핀다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the concepts of ‘experience and learning’, which represent the concerns of the current adult educational theories, and to reflect upon their educational meanings. Nothing is perhaps more important to adult educators than the ideas of experience and learning. Ever since Lindeman echoed Dewey's injunction to learn from experience, experience and learning has been a special place in adult education. This article offers a comparison of three distinct currents of thoughts apparent in recent scholarly writing addressing experience and learning in the adult education. The distinct theories are the progressive, humanistic, behavioristic and critical adult educational perspectives.
