A study on the upbring plan of convention industry in Kangwon-do

In general convention and meeting sector is higher valued than other businesses related to tourism industry because it has a high multiplier effect enhancing economic development faster. This study examined the feasibility on convention and meeting industry in Gangwon-do: where is the best place to design and construct the first convention center and what is the best suggestions to grow up convention and meeting industry in Ganagwon-do. The authors suggested to readers the trends of convention and meeting industry in Korea and the world. To illustrate them, primary and secondary data were used. The primary data were obtained from conducting a survey, which gathered 320 samples already having knowledge on convention and meeting industry because convention and meeting sector needs more special knowledge than other tourism sectors such as a hotel and a travel agency. It is shown in a survey that such factors as accessibility, enough meeting and convention facilities, experience of opening meeting and convention, and enough tourism attractions are very important to decide whether meeting and convention business is successful or not. As a result, Pyungchang was selected as the best place in Gangwon-do. It is necessary that even if meeting and convention industry is an industry to lay a golden egg, the spontaneous participation intention and strong support from local government and people should be another major successful factors.
