楓石 徐有榘의 散文에 대하여

A study on proses of Pungsuk Seo Yu-gu

  이 논문은 ？？楓石鼓？集？？과 ？？金華知非集？？에 수록된 산문작품을 검토하여 풍석 서유구의 산문 문학세계를 고찰함을 목적으로 하였다.   표현기법 면에서는 ‘細事의 기술로부터 議論의 도출’과 ‘비유를 통한 의론 강화와 생동적 묘사’, 碑誌·哀祭類에 나타난 ‘집중 서술을 통한 사상감정의 응축’이 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 서유구 산문의 문예성은 立論의 방식과 논의 전개의 견실성 같은 특성으로 드러나며, 세부기술의 생동적묘사도 그러한 특징에 봉사한다. 碑誌·哀祭類의 글에서는 亡者와 교유하였던 특정한 사건이나 시간만을 집중적으로 묘사하고 서정성을 드러내는 특징을 보이고 있다.   주제의식 면에서는 ‘객관적 인식의 중시’와 ‘상투적 시각의 거부’가 특징이다. 서유구는 고정관념에서 벗어나 개방적인 사고를 강조하였고, 상투적ㆍ인습적 관념을 거부하고 새로운 시각에서 객관대상을 바라보고 그 의미를 새롭게 찾아내고자 하였다. 그의 이러한 노력은 한 개인에 국한될 수 있는 문제를 화두로 삼아 人倫이나 敎化 등 경세적인 담론을 이끌어내는 글에서 나타났다. 서유구의 위와 같은 문학실천은 바로 經世나 敎化에 관심을 둔 經世家의 그것이었다고 할 수 있다.

  Pungsuk Seo Yu-gu(1764~1845) was one of the most important scholars in the late 18th and early 19th century Chosun period. This paper examined Pungsuk Seo Yu-gu"s literatures by reviewing proses collected in ？？PungsukJeonjib？？.   In terms of expression technique, it can be said that the literatures are characterized by ‘deduction of an argument from expression of trifling matters", ‘reinforced arguments and lively representation through a simile", and ‘condensation of an idea and emotion through concentrated description" indicated in a funeral oration. Seo Yu-gu"s proses show the literary characteristics in terms of a method of an argument and soundness of unfolding an argument as well as lively detailed description. In writings for a funeral oration, the proses focus on description of specific events or time he associated with the deceased, showing lyrical characteristics.   With regard to subject consciousness, the proses are characterized by ‘laying emphasis on objective recognition" and ‘rejection of a conventional viewpoint". Seo Yu-gu stressed escaping from stereotypes and an open thought, trying to reject a conventional and orthodox idea and see an objective subject from a new standpoint to newly find the meaning. His effort like this is showed in the writing in which discussion of administration of world such as humanity and enlightenment is deduced from a problem limited to an individual. It can be said that Seo Yu-gu"s practices through literatures was those of an administrator of world who had an interest in administration or enlightenment.
