Developing an Entropy Measure of Perceived Environmental Uncertainty

환경 불확실성은 조직이론 및 경영전략 분야에서 핵심적인 개념으로 다루어져 왔음에도 불구하고 환경 불확실성의 측정에 대해서는 아직 합의점을 갖지 못한 미결의 문제로 보인다. 이러한 점을 인지하여 본 연구에서는 환경 불확실성의 개념화 및 변수조작화에 대한 기존의 연구들의 결점과 문제점들을 제시하고 새로운 환경 불확실성의 측정법을 제안한다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 Milliken(1987, 1990)의 인지된 환경 불확실성의 개념화 및 변수조작화에 대한 접근법을 확장 발전시켜 인지된 환경 불확실성의 엔트로피 측정법을 개발한다.

Although environmental uncertainty is a core concept in the field of organizational theory and strategic management, there seems to have had little consensus regarding its conceptualization and measurement to date. Recognizing such a research gap, this study points out the shortcomings and problems with previous studies regarding conceptualization and operationailization of environmental uncertainty and develops a new measure of environmental uncertainty. Specifically, this study extends Milliken's (1987, 1990) approach to conceptualization and operationalization of perceived environmental uncertainty to develop an entropy measure of environmental uncertainty.
