Study of the model of the name space for .KR ASCII domain

  현재 .KR은 3단계체계 도메인시스템이다. 그러나 ccTLD들은 2단계도메인 개방을 하고 있고 결과적 도메인 등록수는 매우 증가하였다. 한국 ccTLD .KR의 경우 한글도메인은 2단계체계를 영문도 메인은 3단계체계를 사용하므로서 하나의 ccTLD 밑에 다른 2가지 체계를 사용하는 기형적 모습으로 일관성이 결여되므로서 많은 이용자 혼란을 가중하고 도메인의 가용공간을 낭비하는 결과를 가져왔다. .KR 도메인시스템에 일관성 있는 효율성을 구현하지 못한 이유는 도메인체계에 대한 논의가 도메인 공간에 대한 일치된 모델이 없으므로서 수년동안 공전하고 있기 때문이다. 대부분의 2단계를 개방한 국가들의 견해는 도메인 공간문제는 우려할 만한 것이 아니라는 주장과 함께 개방정책을 도입했고 현재까지는 성공적 등록결과를 보여주고 있다. 본 연구는 한국 .KR에 대한 소모적 논의를 종식시키기 위해서 .KR의 영문도메인 공간크기에 대한 평가모델의 필요성은 절실하다고 인식하고, 한국인의 영문 도메인이름의 작명원칙을 분석하여 .KR 영문도메인 공간모델을 개발하였다. 이 연구를 통해서 2단계체계의 개방에서 논점인 영문도메인 공간문제가 해결되어 새로운 도메인체계의 미래성을 담보하는 기회가 되었다. 특별히 본 연구의 공간 평가모델은 한국인의 영문작명 원칙만을 고려한 것이라는 전제를 가정한다.

  In Korea, there has been a lot of debates concerning with the openning of the 2nd level domain. Still there is no conclusion concerning with the best policy relavant to the internet domain name. Because Korean skeptics has argued that the name space is not sure to be sufficient for the future users. However, it is so ironical that nobody has attempted to calculate the size of the name space explicitly. This study tries to identify the mathematical model to assess its space amount. This model is not based on the exponential combinatoric formula, but on the principle of naming the domain. Therefore this model is likely to reflect so real behavior of people"s naming the cyber store. In Korean domain administration policy, through this study, we hope that NIC is confident to open the second level domain for the public uses. Korean .KR system will be more advanced according to the developed nation"s.
