The period between the late Shilla and the early Koryo was ideologically turbulent because of the confused existence of three religions including Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Choi Chi Won who lived during the period was the first man who attempted to make the three religions melted with one another. He also developed the spirit of harmony and accommodation by make statements of Korea"s peculiar idea, or pungryudo.   He also can be thought as one who realized the national spirit in that he emphasized non-obeyance to Chinese culture and sticking to our traditional culture by means of the native idea of pungryudo and Korean people"s subjective consciousness of dongin.   As known well, Choi Chi Won was very accustomed to Buddhism and Taoism on the ground of Confucianism. As far as this researcher is concerned, he is a very significant figure in that he sought for harmony and accommodation among the three religions with no inclination to any of the threes and he was worshiped from the Confucian view of politics in the early Koryo, although he could never escape from Confucianism completely.   Thus this paper focused on clarifying his positions in the ideological mainstream of the period in understanding his ideas of three religions, or Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.   Choi Chi Won could not advance into the political circle further because of his restricted social position and the situation of Shilla not accepting him, but his idea of harmony and accommodation and consciousness of dongin were great remnants to us.   But it is regrettable that he was a Confucianist, so he attempted to melt the three religions with one another with the main basis of Confucianism.   Choi Chi Won"s idea of accommodated co-existence and non-refusal among the three religions is very meaningful to us facing ideological and religious confrontations and deteriorated heterogeneity between the same tribe. His consciousness of dongin as the national spirit gives a great lesson to us who are currently accepting Western culture with no subjective consciousness.
