The purpose of this paper is to study correlation between stress and syllabic rules in Egyptian Arabic.
Egyptian Arabic(EA) which belongs to the Mashriq, or Eastern, Dialect Group in Colloquial Arabic (while the other is Maghrib, or Western, Dialect Group) is one of the most influential dialects in the Middle East and Arab World. The reasons why Egyptian Arabic is chosen as this paper"s aim are geographical location, situation, the political influence and leadership of Egypt in the Arab World.
Egyptian Arabic has a regular and systematic phonological rule as compared with other dialects, especially in correlation between stress and syllabic rules.
Literary Arabic(LA) and Egyptian Arabic basically both share the same syllabic structure, that is CV(C)(C). And the stress falls on the penult or ultima syllable in the pausal pronunciation in LA and in EA. But EA has undergone several changes in the types of phonological processes, and this makes the word forms in EA different from those in LA, for example j?mi?ah in LA is changed into gam?ah in EA.
