The purpose of this paper is to study syllables in Moroccan Arabic.
Each language has its own phonological rules which distinguish it from another. From these rules, the rules of syllables influence many grammatical rules.
Firstly the language situation in Morocco was examined. Morocco has a multi-linguistic society, in which Moroccan Arabic(MA) is served as a lingua franca between most of Moroccans. And Literary Arabic(LA), Berber languages, French and Spanish are also spoken in Morocco.
Moroccan Arabic which belongs to the Maghrib, or Western, Dialect Group in Colloquial Arabic (while the other is Mashriq, or Eastern, Dialect Group) has usually lesser syllables than Literary Arabic, because MA deletes the vowels in any positions in a word.
In onset of the syllable MA deletes the vowel in many words, and so result in consonant cluster (CC- or CCC-). In juncture of syllables in case of coda of a word followed by onset of another word result in different structures of syllable (-CC-, -CCC- or -CCCC-), and in the last a euphonic vowel may inserts in consonant cluster.
