This squib investigates certain aspects of the locality of movement that are observable in ellipsis constructions. Fox and Lasnik (2003) argue that in Sluicing, non-successive cyclic movement of wh-phrase to Spec of CP is allowed since the violations induced by this movement can be repaired by ellipsis at PF. Discussing VP ellipsis in Sluicing environments, however, this squib shows that movement that intermingles successive cyclic movement and non-successive cyclic movement cannot be repaired by ellipsis. This squib proposes that this type of movement induces a violation of a version of Chain Uniformity at LF (cf. Chomsky 1991, Chomsky and Lasnik 1993). Since it has effects only at LF, ellipsis process at PF cannot repair its violations.
