Examination Criteria on the Compliance of Road, Rail or Inland Waterway Transport Document in the ISBP

  The Purpose of this Article is to analyze the examination criteria on the compliance of road, rail or inland waterway transport document in the ISBP. The road, rail or inland waterway transport document is not used in Korea. However, These documents are frequently used in European countries, since these countries have a land frontier and inland waterway.   When the road, rail or inland waterway transport document is presented by the beneficiary to the bank in the letter of credit operations, the bank should examinate the bill of exchange and/or shipping documents, including road, rail or inland waterway transport document.   There are two rules(UCP 500 and ISBP) in connection with examination of the documents in the letter of credit operations. As long as the road, rail or inland waterway transport document fulfils the requirements of UCP 500 Article 28 in conjunction with ISBP(Para. 170 to 182), banks must accept the road, rail or inland waterway transport document.
