A Proposal on Redevelopment of the North harbor of Busan Port

  This study aims at redevelopment for the North harbor of Busan Port and attempting to establish an identity through the analysis and case studies of waterfront development of foreign countries. This study is based on Busan urban harbor plan and the case study which was investigated the relational port with an urban area to find a model of development method and procedure of urban waterfront renewal. The approach of this study is to clarify diversified and to suggest elements after reviewing successful cases.   Busan Port, Korea, is a region that must take integrated measures against problems such as the excessive handling of cargo volume, the intensification of port congestion, and the construction of a new port to improve port competitive power. In particular, if a great deal of function in the existing area of Busan Port transfers to a new port, then the problems of port redevelopment will occur as shown in the cases of port developed countries explained hereafter.   The result of this study is useful for the planner to redevelop more and systematic approaches which could utilize waterfront. Redevelopment of the North harbor will be a new chance of urban development for Busan.
