This study argues that in an era of World English it is not desirable to cling to the native speaker model for English teaching. and English teaching in Korea would benefit by exploiting Korean bilingual teachers who have various advantageous resources rather than concentrating on the native speaker. In order to achieve the goal, it first considers the main characteristics of World English, the fallacy of the native speaker model, and the strengths and assets of Korean bilingual teachers of English. Next, it discusses the results from a questionnaire and interviews devised to gain insights into how Korean elementary school teachers perceive World English, what they think about team teaching with the native speaker teacher, and how they evaluate themselves as English teachers. Finally it suggests that education policy makers need to be aware of the changed new role of English as World English and try to make the best use of Korean bilingual teachers by reappraising their value and strengths.
